Meet the AuthorsFormer NAS tenor John Duncan cooks for crowds because he loves to party: "If you're cooking for four, you might as well cook for 16!" He admits to trying out first-time recipes on unsuspecting friends—with few complaints and no fatalities. A professional interior designer and architectural renderer, John spent his 35 years with the chorus both singing and cooking for benefits.NAS board member Dennis Goodenough arrived in New York in 1981, joined the New Amsterdam Singers in 1982 and, recognizing a kindred spirit and foodie in his fellow tenor, promptly became John's co-chef for chorus benefits. While building a professional career with major financial companies, Dennis remained active with NAS as a singer, treasurer and planner of chorus concert tours. Former NAS bass Rick Hibberd worked in NYC design firms before running his own shop for 20 years. Then he conducted USAID development projects abroad. Rick now consults in branding, promotion and publishing. He also sells electricity from his micro hydroelectric project in the Catskills. Rick cooks far less complicated meals. NAS alto Ellen Stark joined the chorus in 1990 and was promptly recruited to be board president, investment adviser, benefit planner, by-laws updater and tour co-director. She's also been cajoled into prepping, plating and serving dinner to hundreds of guests more times than she can count. In her spare moments, she works as a magazine and website editor. | |||
